Thank you for writing this: it is a brilliant, idiomatic translation of a nuanced text. I enjoyed reading it very much.

Given the context, I translated 'unter dem Eindruck stehen' (Abs. 5) as 'to be under the spell of'. What do you think? I hope this comment doesn't come across as pedantic: it is only my attempt to engage sincerely with an excellent piece of work.

Thank you for your kind words! You can surely translate it this way; translation is not an exact science, after all. Considering the intensity of Cortés' reaction as described by Schmitt in the following sentences, it seems fitting, too.

I feel very disappointed the some of these great minds were contemporary of much of the chaos that led to post-modernity, but not so many minds alike were able to carry this to the next generations, which lead us to our times.
